October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and they are celebrating 25 years of Awareness, Education and Empowerment. I had the pleasure of working with Fran Visco who is the National Breast Cancer Coalition President and who is also a breast cancer survivor. We shot a TV ad last month for her campaign to end breast cancer.
On September 15th an episode of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 15 aired that I did the makeup for. The episode was about teen bullying and I ended up missing the episode when it aired but later watched it on iTunes. With all the recent teen suicides in the news as of late, this episode of ANTM could not have come at a better time. Teen bullying is a serious issue right now and I am glad that an entertainment show about modeling can help shed light on this issue.
The episode was shot by photographer Deborah Anderson at Smashbox Studios in West Hollywood. The shoot was 60’s inspired so for makeup, I created a different eye makeup look for each model. I really had to be creative with each model, because 60’s eye makeup is very distinct with the strong lines and cat like eyes. I used a total of 48 pairs of eyelashes that day and some models had 5 or 6 pairs at a time. Each model had a negative word painted on there body that they were called as a teen like Lanky, Queer or Stupid and they also had a positive word written on them as well like Beautiful, Smart of Free to name just a few.
