Spring/Summer 2009 Beauty Trends

March 31, 2009

Effortless Spring/Summer 2009 Beauty Trends.

Spring and Summer are two of my favorite seasons, the days are longer, the sun is shining and you can not help but want to be outside. I am really excited about  some of the beauty trends we are starting to see for Spring/Summer 2009.

SKIN: The skin is fresh, luminous and sun-kissed with flushed pink cheeks. Apply a very small amount of a sheer tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 1 shade darker than your natural skin tone to even out your complexion. Make sure to blend well into your hairline and neck. Next, apply a drop or two of luminizer mixed with your foundation to your cheek bones, bridge of nose, forehead, chin and blend well. The Multiple by Nars is perfect for highlighting on the go. Orgasm and Copacabana are two of my favorite shades.

LIPS: Lips are painted and glossed in bright shades of Cherry Red, Coral and Fuchsia. Coral and Fuchsia look great with tanned skin. Apply these colors with caution though, the idea is not over do it. To tone down some of the brightness, try using a bright gloss instead of a opaque lipstick or lacquer.

EYES: The eyes are veiled in Metallic Gold and washes of Lavender, Blue and Green pastel eyeshadow. For this look, I love the Shiseido Hydro Powder Eye Shadow pots. These pots are a burst of translucent color and can be applied with your finger or brush and layered for a wash of color.

LASHES: Long lashes are also very big this Spring. You can achieve this look by either getting the popular eye lash extensions or by applying 2-3 coats of your favorite thickening mascara. I love the YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils in High Density Black.

BRONZER & SHIMMER: Bronzed Skin is also a big hit for Summer. Try layering a light bronzer over your tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation and blend well. Do not forget your ears, neck and decolletage. I love bronzed skin paired with a bright pink lip gloss. Shimmer is also all the rage this Spring and Summer, Apply a light shimmer cream or fluid to the face and eyes such as the Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer to the cheek bones. This luminizer is a multi-use product. You can add a touch of luminizer to the center of your bottom lip for a fuller pout or dab it in the inside corner of your eyes for a brightening effect.

Product of the week: Embryolisse Skin Care

March 21, 2009

Embryolisse skin care has been a staple in my makeup kit as well as my own personal skin care regimen for a little over a year. I first heard of this brand from a friend who lives in Paris. She had ranted and raved about Embryolisse when I was showing off some of my fancy face creams to her so I decided to check it out.

I first tried the Lait-Creme Concentrate and fell in love with it. This deluxe cream is perfect for my sensitive and dry skin. I definately noticed a dramatic difference in my skin after a week of using it. My skin was more supple, smooth and I also had fewer breakouts. Some of the skin care products I was using before had a lot of perfume and it really irritated my skin. Embryolisse is the complete opposite.

These products also work perfectly under any foundation and especially under the Temptu S/B Airbrush foundation. If you are in the Los Angeles area, you can check out this great skin care line at either Frend’s or Nigel’s Beauty Emporium in North Hollywood.

My three favorite products are the Lait-Creme Concentrate, Hydrating Creme with Orange Extract and the Anti-Aging Creme. Below is a description from each product taken from the Embryolisse website. Please visit www.embryolisse.com for more info and history of the product.

embryolisse

Hydrating Creme with Orange Extract: This cream instantly supplies skin with all the moisture it needs to be healthier and softer. In addition, vitamin-rich (A, B, C, H, PP) orange extract lastingly completes the radiance-promoting, skin toning effect.

Lait-Creme Concentrate: The Lait-Crème Concentré from Embryolisse Laboratories immediately provides skin with essential nourishing components to replenish its lipids and rapidly repair it. Its formula, which has been used for decades, remains extremely simple and effective: nourishing ingredients, which can be taken up by skin to restore its barrier function and smooth away imperfections caused by cutaneous dryness.

Anti-Aging Creme: Anti-ageing skin care cream contains targeted dermatological active ingredients and a smoothing, restructuring vitamin concentrate, for effective firming action. Its nourishing, non-greasy formula counters cutaneous dryness, which speeds up skin ageing.

Integrity Skin Facial Spa

March 9, 2009

I first met Tussanee from Integrity Skin on a photo shoot that we were doing for her Eye Lash Extensions and she has been tending to my facial needs ever since. I have had tons of facials from all the trendy  Hollywood type spas and have to say that I have never had  a better facial until I met Tussanee.

Her attention to detail and giving her clients the best job is unsurpassed. I love to refer my clients to Tussanee before big photo shoots or events. She offers custom facials for different types of skin and also offers additional resurfacing options like Glycolic or Pumpkin Peels and even Microdermabrasion. Your skin really does get “That Glow” when she is done with you.

In addition to facials, Tussanee also offers Eye Lash Extensions, Lash Tinting and Eye Brow Waxing. Her eye lash extensions are perfectly placed and do not stick together or look matted. They also do not pull out your own lashes, which is sometimes typical with other less experienced applicators. They really do last 4-6 weeks and look gorgeous.

Check out her site at http://www.integrityskin.com and call and make a appointment, Your skin will thank you.

Product of the Week: Cle De Peau Concealer

March 8, 2009

To say that this concealer is “Just” amazing is a total understatement. The Cle De Peau concealer is one of the BEST products I have ever used. The smooth creamy consistency of this concealer is just PERFECT and it has won the “Best Of Beauty” award from Allure magazine. This super highly pigmented concealer can be used to cover freckles, blemishes, and dark circles. When making up some of my celebrity clients, I have been know to use just this concealer and nothing else. This wonder product is on the pricey side but totally worth the splurge. Cle De Peau Beaute is available at Saks, Neiman’s, Bergdorf’s and Barney’s New York.

Inspiring Artist: Adam Tenenbaum

March 7, 2009

Once in awhile I will come across an artists that I am truly inspired by. I was first introduced to this artist by Ava from Temptu during a recent shopping trip. We decided to set up a impromptu beauty shoot at the loft space on a rainy afternoon. I did natural and fashion makeup on the models and Adam did his amazing body and face paintings after. I was in awe of his kit and the tools that he uses to create his unique looks. Some of the things he uses to create his looks were just basic household items. We discussed how to airbrush lace and I was quick to learn that I had been doing it all wrong. Adam was kind enough to give me some tips for my next venture into body painting. To watch Adam work is a experience I will never forget. He is truly a master at what he does. You can check out Adams work at www.overlayair.com, I hope you will be as inspired as I was.

These are just a few of my favorite images of Adam’s work.

Fashion Photo Shoot

March 5, 2009

A couple of weeks ago I did a test photo shoot with friend and photographer Ron Derhacopian. Ron and I have been working together for about 4 years now and we have created some amazing beauty images together. Ron had seen some great industrial looking props in a nearby prop house and he came up with this great concept of shooting a model in studio and dropping various backdrops into the shots.  Nonja McKenzie styled this shoot, Ramon Fuertes did the hair and I did the makeup. Here is a teaser shot from the shoot with many more to follow.
